In order to reach this result, the researchers targeted a group of women and men, whose ages ranged between 21-45 years.

The researchers collected information from participants at regular intervals, and found the following:

  • Consuming soft drinks reduced the chances of conceiving by about 20% for both men and women.
  • Consuming at least one soft drink per day reduced women’s chances of conceiving by 25%.
  • Men having at least one soft drink a day reduced their chances of conceiving by 33%.
  • Intake was associated with a significantly lower fertility rate compared to soft drinks.

The authors of the study emphasized that the prevalence of consumption of these soft drinks, which contain a very high amount of sugar, may pose a major health threat in various and varied aspects.
