Infection is a very unpleasant thing, and unfortunately it is very common in the winter, but do you know when to consult a doctor?

The internal physician (Benjamin Kaplan, MD) revealed that there are some signs that it is important to follow them and consult a specialist if they appear, which are:

  • Cough lasting more than 18 days
  • Accompanied by shortness of breath
  • Mucus draining through the back of the throat (Post nasal drip)
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Bleeding from the mouth

In general, the cough lasts for a period not exceeding nine days, but if it continues for more than this period, there may be a problem that must be resolved.

A chronic cough is defined as that which lasts for a period ranging from six to eight weeks and is accompanied by some symptoms such as:

  • GERD
  • heartburn
  • bad breath
  • Sour taste in the mouth.

The doctor emphasized that the length of the coughing period is not a frightening matter, but the issue becomes serious if it is accompanied by the symptoms mentioned previously.

When you consult a doctor, you will undergo a set of tests, so that the doctor can diagnose the underlying causes of your injury and thus receive the appropriate treatment for your health condition.
